On the Fearless Mom Instagram account, we try to share a mix of funny, practical, and encouraging posts. We recently shared an image that read, “Stop trying to calm the storm. Calm yourself. The storm will pass.” Judging from the response, this concept resonates with a lot of moms. Most moms we know are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and even anxious these days. They most definitely feel like they’re in the midst of a storm!

And while many of our current circumstances are out of our control, remember what we always say in Fearless Mom: “We cannot always control our circumstances, but we CAN always control how we approach and respond to them.”

Simply acknowledging your feelings about the situation is a great first step. Look at your feelings with curiosity, not judgment or comparison. Then, evaluate the situation that’s causing those feelings and determine if there’s anything YOU can do to improve circumstances. Are there choices you can make or actions you can take to improve the situation? Sometimes there are, and sometimes there are not. Control what you can, and make peace with what you cannot. When the storm is raging and is beyond your control, work on calming yourself, remembering that the storm will eventually pass.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Here are some simple things you can do to help “calm yourself” when you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or anxious:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  1. Go for a walk outdoors.
  2. Do some breathing exercises.
  3. Pray and read Scripture.
  4. Journal your thoughts and prayers.
  5. Drink lots of water and eat smart.
  6. Get some sleep.
  7. Exercise and do yoga.
  8. Draw, color, paint, or anything creative.
  9. Listen to peaceful music.
  10. Laugh. Watch a funny show, read a funny book.
  11. Make a list of things you’re grateful for.
  12. Do something kind for someone else.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You CAN do this. God’s design and desire is for you to live a life of peace, hope, and joy! You got this, and He’s got you! With HIS HELP, you most definitely CAN do this!

I can do HARD things because Christ gives me strength.

I can do NEW things because Christ gives me strength.

I can do SCARY things because Christ gives me strength.

I can do ALL things because Christ gives me strength.

Philippians 4:13
